Book Review—Brave Heroes and Bold Defenders

When Courageous World Changers: 50 True Stories of Daring Women of God came out earlier this year (see my review here), you knew there had to be a follow-up for boys, right? And here it is.

Spanning the globe and 800 years of history, this new book presents the inspirational stories of “men of true grit” (as the introduction says) who are heroes of the Christian faith.

Featured in the book are athletes, scientists, civil rights leaders, theologians, musicians, missionaries, military leaders, and more. Each one is someone boys can look up to and learn from about what it means to follow Jesus in a dark world.

The one-page biographies are concise (yet filled with facts) and quick to read. Adults will learn from them too! And reading along with your middle-grade son or grandson is recommended. Many of the stories in the book tell of harsh, real-world circumstances that could be surprising and troubling to some readers.

Boys need strong role models, especially in a world that downplays masculinity as “toxic.” And any boy will find more than a few heroes to emulate in this book.
