Book Review—The Christmas Promise

So, just how did God fulfill his promise to send a King unlike any other? Would you like to know? This picture book asks kids that question and begins to answer it speedily.

Then easy text and delightful illustrations unwrap the story of the coming of the New King, the Rescuing King, the Forever King God had promised.

First Mary, then Joseph, then shepherds are sent messages via angels.

Wise men receive a message when a new star appears, and they travel a long time to find the New King and worship him (accurately: in a house, when he’s a toddler; I’m always happy to see that!).

Emphasized throughout is that God kept his promise.

The last spread reveals the name of the New King, with illustrations that show baby Jesus plus images of Jesus working as a carpenter, teaching a crowd of people, hanging on the cross, and reigning on his future return to earth.

The final page directs parents and families to Scriptures that tell the Christmas story as well as to Old Testament passages with promises about the coming King.

A board book version of this book is available too, with simplified text and pictures.
