Book Review—God Gave Us the Bible

This book of Bible stories begins with Mama Bear inviting her Little Cub and his sleepover friends to come into the house so she can share the best story ever with them—the story of the Bible.

I know, I know … that’s a strange opening for a Bible storybook.

But Mama Bear and Little Cub talk about God and His love in a series of popular picture books … and if you don’t mind animals talking about the Bible as if it were meant for them, their questions and comments on the stories throughout this book provide a good model for how parents can discuss the stories with their children.

The 45 stories are short, some as short as just one page. The storytelling is just right for young children—factual yet also playful at times.

The book is beautifully designed, with varied, interesting page layouts and illustrations that capture the emotions of the characters in the stories.

(And I’m always happy to see the wise men arriving at a house in Bethlehem, not a stable.)
