Book Review—Wherever You Go, I Want You to Know

What’s your greatest hope for your children and grandchildren? That they will love and follow Jesus all their lives, of course. This bedtime- or anytime-read plants that prayer in young hearts in quite a winsome way.

The look and feel of this story in rhyme has an obvious connection to Oh, the Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss. But the smaller size (7 X 9 inches, like an early reader) makes it perfect for the preK through early elementary crowd.

The book explores possible occupations and experiences children might have and assures them of their parents’ love and support always. Yet right from the beginning, a repeating refrain hints of something more:

Listen, little one,
I want you to know,
I have a BIG dream
Wherever you go.

I love that the illustrations are multiethnic and that the text is honest too:

The world’s a BIG place
Full of GOOD things and BAD.
ADVENTURES await you,
Some HAPPY,
Some SAD.

The last fourth of the book reveals that every parents’ or grandparents’ dream and then plants seeds of the gospel and Jesus’ love.

I pray you love JESUS
With ALL of your heart.
WHATEVER you do,
That’s the right place to start.

I’m going to keep this one on hand to read whenever the grandboys come to visit!
